Fine-grained config¶
A config tree has recursion structure:
MODULE
FI_LIST (e.g. activation_in, weights)
FI_ATTR
FI_STAGE (e.g. quantization, selector)
METHOD_ARGS (e.g. dynamic_range, rate)
OBSERVER_LIST
OBSERVER_ATTR
MODULE_LIST (sub_modules)
MODULE
FI_LIST
...
It is slightly different from EasyConfig. Firstly, it does not have a module_name or module_type field Matching parameters, because each config block corresponds to one PyTorch module. Secondly, it is a recursive structure that corresponds to the nested structure of the PyTorch model. The submodule field contains the next level modules dict.
To save or load detail config tree, you can use following code:
fi_model = MRFI(Model(), 'easyconfigs/default_fi.yaml')
# Save config tree to a YAML file
fi_model.save_config('model_config_tree.yaml')
# A detail config tree can be loaded by
fi_model_new = MRFI(Model(), 'model_config_tree.yaml')
Take a nested model, torchvision.models.resnet.resnet18
as example.
print(resnet18())
shows the following structure:

If we use easyconfigs/deault_fi.yaml
as EasyConfig and then expand to ConfigTree,
all layers with name 'conv', 'fc' will be selected for fault injection.
Therefore, part of ConfigTree YAML file will be looking like below:
activation: []
activation_out: []
observers: []
observers_pre: []
sub_modules:
avgpool:
activation: []
activation_out: []
observers: []
observers_pre: []
sub_modules: {}
weights: []
bn1:
activation: []
activation_out: []
observers: []
observers_pre: []
sub_modules: {}
weights: []
conv1:
activation:
- enabled: true
error_mode:
args:
bit_width: 16
method: IntSignBitFlip
quantization:
args:
bit_width: 16
dynamic_range: auto
method: SymmericQuantization
selector:
args:
poisson_sample: true
rate: 1e-3
method: RandomPositionByRate
activation_out: []
observers: []
observers_pre: []
sub_modules: {}
weights: []
We can see activation(i.e. activation input) of conv layers has fault injection, while others are empty.
It is possible to manually modify the ConfigTree YAML configuration file and then load it.
Due to the large amount of data, we also provide some APIs for dynamically modifying a batch of configurations of the built-in ConfigTree. See advanced configuration for more information.
